A method of suppression of pulsation in liquid-filled pipeline is proposed. Most kinds of pulsation in piping systems are considered as the forced vibrations of liquid columns excited by pressure fluctuation. Therefore a pulsation with largeamplitude may occur at a certain resonance frequency. Suppose that a pipeline is in resonance at a certain frequency. If the natural frequency of the pipeline can be changed from the resonance frequency to another one, the resonance can be avoided. Theproposed method is based on this idea. Several air chambers are used to change the natural frequencies. The air chambers (accumulators) are connected to the pipeline through ball valves. Distinct distributions of natural frequencies can be obtained byopening and closing of the valves. The states of the valves should be selected so that the pressure amplitude or the flow rate fluctuation at the outlet of the pipe will become lowest at every exciting frequency. The optimum locations of the air chamberscan be predicted by a calculation.
