The technical task forces of the European pressure equipment research council EPERC

The European Pressure Equipment Research Council (EPERC) is a European Network of industries, research laboratories, inspection bodies and governmental institutions, set up to foster co-operative research for the greater benefit of the Europeanindustry.The EPERC Steering Committee has decided upon the creation of 4 technical task forces (TTF) in view of the development of projects and studies under the aegis of EPERC as an answer to the R&D needs of the European pressure industry.TTF 1 is devoted to fatigue design, which is generally not considered up to now for simple pressure components but that the new European Directive on Pressure Equipment has introduced.TTF 2 aims at an easier use of high strength steels and other materials for simple pressure components m view of more economical manufacturing or weight reduction.TTF 3 will deal mainly with inspection, monitoring, maintenance and probably defect acceptance aspects. The terms of reference were established in line with the wishes of industry in view of the global approach of diagnostic the availability(safety/economy) of components and installations that would not be inspection driven.TTF 4 involves connectors, bolted flanges, gaskets, joints and could be the starting point of an effective cooperation with the American Pressure Vessel Research Council.
