progress report on the API project to develop risk based inspection methodology

The API Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Project continues to make good progress toward its goal of developing and implementing RBI methodology and software for the oil and chemical industry. The project, which initiated in August of 1993, is targetedfor completion in December, 1998. The latest versions of Level I and II (qualitative and semi-quantitative) RBI software were delivered on time to project sponsors in September, 1997. Considerable progress is also being accomplished on Level III(quantitative) software. The Base Resource Document (BRD), which first issued in May of 1995, is also being periodically updated with numerous improvements and expansions to the RBI methodology.The API RBI development project currently has 21 subscribers. The primary contractor Det Norske Veritas (U.S.A.) Inc., continues to meet or exceed the high expectations of the sponsor group.Parallel to this project, an API CRE RBI task group is continuing to work on developing an API recommended practice (RP 580) that will describe all the vital issues to be considered by users in the application of Risk-Based Inspection techniques tohydrocarbon process facilities. API RP 580 is projected to be ready for publication in late 1999.This progress report covers the status of the API project to develop RBI methodology. A summary of the API RBI methodology itself and a description of the three levels of RBI analysis are included in another paper in this session by the same author.
