The primary objective of this project was to design and test a manifold that would allow Beckman to measure the fluorescence of micron-size spheres. Specifically, Beckman should be able to measure the intensity and frequency of the spectra for each sphere without interference from the another sphere. The design must also allow Beckman to measure a representative sample of the beads, over 75percent of those originally introduced. Second, the optical measurements should yield a high signal to background ratio, near 100:1.
