The Method of Successive Averages and Method of Successive Weighted Averages for Logit-Based Stochastic User Equilibrium Assignment

This paper proposes the method of successive averages (MSA), and the method of successive weighted averages (MSWA), for determining the stochastic user equilibrium solution (SUE) for logit-based loadings. The deterministic user equilibrium (DUE) model which assumes that users get perfect information did not work well in practice. Thus, the stochastic approaches to traffic assignment was proposed and used. This paper addresses the conventional MSA and MSWA to solve this iterative problem. Finally, a numerical example is used to assess the proposed methodology. Results reveal that the convergence property of proposed MSWA is much better than that of conventional MSA.
