Simulating Traveling Time and Exhaust Emissions along the Northern Sea Route

To better understand the environmental impact of shipping in arcticareas, this paper will focus on the development of a tool to determinethe traveling time, consumed type of fuel and corresponding exhaustemissions. This tool has been developed during the European Unionfunded research project ACCESS (Arctic Climate Change, Economyand Society) (HSVA, 2014). The results depend on ship parameters likehull shape, propulsion system, engine characteristic and consumed typeof fuel as well as the environmental conditions which are mainlyinfluenced by the climate change.
