One of the main functions of an OSV is for heavy lifting. Therefore,predicting dynamic loads in various operation conditions is one of thecrucial points of the lifting operation of an OSV. To do this, crane-liftingsimulation precedes real operation to verify the safety of the liftingoperation. This study derives the equations for the motion of a multibodysystem using a flexible body model for the crane boom based on thefinite element in various ocean conditions. The results showed thatflexible body models have bigger dynamic factors than do the rigid bodymodels in all cases, which means the flexibility of the crane boom shouldbe considered to accurately estimate the dynamic effect on the OSVlifting simulation.
