Landscape characteristics around the stairs in the hillside residential area, Kobe city

In this study, we focus on the landscape around the stairs in the hillside residential area in Kobe city and try to define the landscape characteristics by evaluating them.The purpose of this study is to get the knowledge on the landscape characteristics around the stairs in the hillside residential area for shifting the better image of the hillside residential area.We can categorize into four types of the stairs in terms of the relationship between the inclination of the stairs and the number of the steps and we've found out the difference of the landscape characteristics according to each type.Moreover, we set the five evaluation items: land feature, sense of unity on the streetscape, scenic views, diversity of the landscape elements, and sense of nature and we understood the landscape characteristics in detail on the two stairs in each type.As a conclusion, we get the tendency that land feature, scenic views and sense of nature are difficult to improve for the better living environments by the residents' selves.On the other hand, the sense of the unity on the streetscape and the diversity of the landscape elements can be changed by the residents' selves.
