Historic Urban Landscape Approach and Conservation of Modern Urban Heritage in China: Case Study of Qingdao

The protection of the modem urban heritage is relying on the state's heritage protection systems and historic city (town) protection system to be implemented in P.R.China.These two systems cut off the urban heritage and its protection areas from the contemporary city in a certain extent.So, these systems have some limitations in certain aspects.In 2011, UNESCO's General Conference adopted a new international instrument: The new Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape.Thus provides a new idea to protect the modern urban heritage of China.As a case study of Qingdao's historic city area, the paper discoursed how to use the Historic Urban Landscape Approach to recognizing the value of the modern urban heritage in overall on the basic of a comprehensive study on urban history and urban heritage.And then talk about how to protect the value carrier implemented in the framework of the current and future urban development and city management, take the comprehensive protection of the modern urban heritage on authenticity and integrity, continue or remodeling the spirit of heritage.
