Car Sharing to Develop in China

摘要

Innovative solutions are required to handle the challenges posed by excessive private cars, which includes congestion, environmental pollution, and low resource utilization. After years of research, promising results have recently been reported in western countries with car sharing. Car sharing has the potential to change individual travel habits and reduce private car ownership, bringing both social and environmental benefits. However, car sharing is only being explored in China. In order to achieve sustainable development, car sharing should be given more attention. This paper reviews the theoretical basis of car sharing and the comprehensive benefits that car sharing may bring. Then, it discusses the obstacles of developing car sharing in China. Several ideas are proposed aiming at resolving possible problems that could be encountered in the car sharing implementation process.
