Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a non-destructive geophysics method which is widely used in detecting buried structure and targets. Conventional GPR uses the multi-core cable to communicate between host and antenna box. It is inconvenient to install the cable in the field especially in applications where cabling is difficult. In addition, the cable connection can be unreliable. In this paper, new generation of GPR with wireless data communication function is presented. Any device with 802.11 protocol and related software can communicate with the GPR system as a display and storage device. The maximum data rate can reach up to 54Mbps and maximum distance between the host and antenna box can be over 100m. The comparison between this radar system and existing commercial radar systems is discussed and several filed data with different applications is presented. The WGPR system is an easy to use, compact, power saving, and efficient.
