Modification and Flight Test of In-Theater Aircraft

Our armed forces have become increasingly expeditionary and we face complex and evolving non-traditional threats while deployed to remote regions of the globe. This paper discusses several challenges faced by DoD and host nation system integrators, developmental testers and operators as new airborne systems are deployed to meet these emerging threats. Specific system examples include in-theater modification of Russian supplied Mi-17 helicopters, as well as foreign military sales AC-208 Combat Caravan operational testing conducted in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
