Method development on the chemical micro-separation of Cs and Ba from a lanthanide glass is presented. A miniature gas pressurized extraction chromatography system (GPEC) uses ultra high purity compressed nitrogen to push a liquid sample through a 7-inch chromatographic column packed with approximately 0.05 g of Eichrom Sr-Resin?. Previous experiments by Sommers et al. [1] demonstrated good separations of Cs and Ba in a 3 M nitric acid solution when a gas flow rate of 0.1 mL/min was used. High purity 3 M nitric acid is used to rinse Cs through the column and high purity 1% acetic acid is used to quantitatively strip Ba from the resin. Initial separation of Cs and Ba in a lanthanide glass is presented here, including isotopic analysis by ICP-MS.
