This paper conducted the effects of residence time distribution (RTD) on NH3-N removal efficiency by three-phase internal fluidized bed. Pulse testing was applied under different flow patterns, using NaCl as the tracer. Then number of tank-in-series was determined to approach1 and the reactor could be considered as a Continuous Stirred-Tank Reactor(CSTR). Different HRT was compared and it concluded that as HRT =1.5h, volume utilization ratio reached the highest level, and the maximum removal efficiency of NH3-N(>90%) was obtained. These results validated the good reliability of the RTD testing, and provided the basic data and knowledge for determination the reactor size and scale-up ratio.
