5.12 Wenchuan earthquake triggered a large number of direct and secondary geological disasters, it has posed an enormous threat to people's life and the property safety, the barrier lake caused by the earthquake is a typical secondary geological disasters. Combinated the results of engineering geological investigation at the scene and regional engineering geological conditions at upstream of the barrier lake in Mianyuan River at Mianzhu City, the barrier lake's the fo.rmation and status quo are analyzed. Through the analysis of engineering geological conditions at two typical barrier lake in Mianyuan River, as can be seen that weir plug is mainly composed by solitary stone, block stone and crushed gravel and has loose structure. According to the actual analysis of engineering geological conditions of the barrier lake, the corresponding analysis of the safety evaluation is made. As the barrier lake caused a greater threat to life and property secu- rity, in order to ensure their safety, corresponding emergency treatment measures are needed and most of it is artificial excavation discharge measures.
