Shield tunnels are commonly employed in subways or underground highways, however, structural health monitoring systems can seldom be found in shield tunnels. This paper presents the structural health monitoring system (SHMS) of Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnels, which are the second largest shield tunnel in diameter over the world. The hardware deployment and the software topology are introduced in the paper. The environmental geological actions and structural responses can be monitored in real time by the sHMS, and also, the health state of the segment structure can be identified to ensure the safety and durability of NJYRTs.
