Study on waterproof measures of metro tunnel traversing active ground fissure zones in Xi'an, China

Since the 1950s, there has already occurred 14 ground fissure zones in urban area of Xi'an, which have caused and are causing substantial damage to buildings, roads, bridges, pipeline and other infrastructures. These active ground fissure is a serious threat on Xi'an Metro construction. Based on the analysis of movement characteristics and active tendency of ground fissures and possible hazards of metro tunnel induced by active ground fissures, considering the particularities of tunnel waterproof in Xi'an, waterproof measures such as jointly treatment method of bentonite, hollow preloading rubber water stop belt and Ω-style rubber water stop, the method of double-layer lining with detachable prefabricated segments and the GINA water stop method are put forward in this paper and adaptabilities of these waterproof measures are estimated. This study can be presented as the reference to structural and waterproof design of metro tunnel traversing active ground fissure zones in Xi'an.
