We have developed and implemented commercial production of magnesium alloy granulesas well as manufacturing wrought semi-finished products on their basis. The developedprocess of manufacturing semi-finished products from new structural materials comprisesthe following process stages: high-rate solidification of magnesium alloys with productionof granules, subsequent granule deformation into extruded and rolled semi-finishedproducts.Solidification of magnesium alloys is performed centrifugally in a coolant medium at agranulator. Cooling rate, 10~4 - 10~5 °C/sec, allows to produce a disperse structure ofgranules with homogeneous distribution of alloying elements.An important advantage of the developed extruding method is simultaneous compaction ofgranules and their subsequent deformation with reduction ratio from several tens of unitsup to 100 and more.Strength properties of deformed semi-finished products made of high-strength granularmagnesium alloys are 1.2-1.4 times higher than those of semi-finished productsmanufactured from billets, while ductility properties are 2-2.5 times higher.
