Carboniferous-Permian (C-P) coal measures in Huabei area belong to the sediment of Upper Paleozoic sea-land intermediate type coal basin in North China Plate. Metamorphic evolution and hydrocarbon generation in this area is one of most important problems that the geologists and exploration specialists pay much attention to. According to about 2,000 vitrinite reflectance (Ro) data measured and collected from the field, combined with the previous research results, the authors systematically stated thermal evolution characteristics and hydrocarbon generation evolution stages of organic matter from Upper Paleozoic coal measures, discussed the conditions of secondary hydrocarbon generation and primarily confirmed the distribution range of secondary hydrocarbon generation.
