Evalaution of the safety of energetic materials needs to consider not only the possibility of reaction, the risk of reaction, but also the reaction rate. In the present paper, the properties of the adiabatic assessment mehtod of the thermal safety of energetic materials are illustrated using kinetic analysis, which is related to reaction mechanism functions. From the kinetic equation, it can be seen that the self-heating rate of adiabatic reaction system and other data calculated from the self-heating rate are only realted to the properties of hte reaction system itself, such as reaction heat, molecule mass, specific heat, pre-exponential factor, activation energy and reaction mechanism, are not influenced by the environmental factors. So, to evaluate the thermal safety of energetic materials using data measured in adiabatic conditions is suitable. The experimental result and principal component analysis proved this.
