The variabilities of the western Pacific warm pool including mixed layer depths, areas, volumes boundary oscillations, positions of the gravitational center, surface heat flux and heat storage rates, and heat transport are studied using ERS-1, 2 and NSCAT scatterometer wind, TOPEX/Poseidon sea level, AVHRR MCSST and Pathfinder SST and in situ mooring data. time-frequency analyses of the multisensor satellite data time series along the equator using the Empirical Mode Decomposition-Hilbert with a level 2.5 turbulence closure mixed layer model and an inverse model are the main tools in he study. 1997-98 El Nino-Southern Oscillation related variabilities in the tropical Pacific, forcing, heat budget in the presentation. For this proceedings, we only report the results from time frequency analyses and the possible precursory singals for the typical (large) El Nino events.
