We have studied the structure of moving beds of bi-dispersed spherical particles by using the flow of air, bearing a CO_2 tracer, as a probe of the structure of the corresponding "frozen" beds. The dependence of gas RTDs and velocity profiles on the mass fraction of small particles has been established. A particle sampler has been used to measure the radial distributions of the particles. Under suitable conditions, the small particles segregate to a core region of the bed, corresponding to the region of the bed where the gas has smaller velocity.
