The airfield pavements for Hong Kong's new airport at Chek Lap Kok have been designed using current design principles that would ensure long term performance. The design fully considered the introduction of the next generation of aircraft (Code F) but was tailored to the site conditions and the availability of local materials. This paper presents the issues that were considered in the design of the airfield pavements and is complemented by the two papers by Cains/Leney also presented at this Conference.
