This paper describes the design, choice of pavement type, materials, plant and methods used to construct the flexible airfield pavements at the New Airport at Chek Lap Kok (CLK) between April 1995 and November 1997. Of particular importance to the long term performance of the pavements was the design, specification and selection of particularly high quality materials, a suitable mix design; the use of appropriate mixing, spreading and compaction plant and the adoption of appropriate quality assurance/control systems for each process and operation.
