A Graphical Database Management System for Road Network Operations

An interactive information system for pavement management provides a user-friendly and systematic procedure for evaluating pavement condition and determining priorities for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation. One such system is the windows-based graphical user interface was developed to fully utilise all the decision analysis tools as well as the information gathered based on the Pavement Distress Rating (PDR) system, pavement friction evaluation models and pavement structural evaluation system. The interactive information system and computerised database management system give better control over data consistency and offer superior facility for data maintenance, storage and retrieval compared to paper-based record keeping. Through its training and guidance modules incorporated in the help files, this computerised system can also be used as a training tool.
