This paper applies statistical and probabilistic method to the design of asphalt pavement, using the existing multilayer elastic program based asphalt pavement-design method used in China. The major purpose for applying such method was to assess the variation of pavement bearing capacity as a function of the variability of design factors. An approximate derivation method was applied on pavement design program to determine the effect of the variation of subgrade and pavement materials' resilient moduli and of layers' thicknesses on the variation of surface deflection and/or tensile stress at the bottom of bound layer. The normal-normal model was used to calculate the reliability of asphalt pavement.
