We carry out a new method for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar using collocated antennas with overlapped sub arrays. The main aim of this technique is to partition the transmitting array into a number of overlapped sub arrays. Each sub array transmits a waveform that is orthogonal with the waveforms transmitted by other sub arrays. Coherent processing gain can be achieved by properly designing the weight vector for each sub array. The sub arrays are combined jointly to form MIMO radar resulting in high resolution capabilities. Simulation results shows improvements offered by this method as compared to previous techniques.
