Through frequent mouting behavior, the young child is apt to transfer pesticide resides from recently-treated carpet to his/her slaiva-wetted hands, and subseqently to the muth. An experiment was conducted to determine and compare the efficiencies of press transfer of dry residues of formulated chlorpyifos, pyrethrins, and piperonyl butoxide from treated carpet to the plam of a volunteer's hand that had been mistened with human saliva, an artifical saliva, or the surfactant dicotyl sulfosuccinate (DSS). Mean transfer efficienies from plush carpet to hands moistened with human saliva, artificial saliva, and DSS were similar, with ranges of 0.7
