Emission activity measurements during the fall and winter IMS-95 components-preliminary results

In a unique effort, real-time area source emission activity data were collected concurrently with regional air quality monitoring during the fall and winter components of the 1995 Integrated Monitoring Study (IMS-95) (see adjacent session papers). Emission activity data provide a contesxt for air quality data analysis. These a ctivity data describe the transient land uses, traffic flows, and unusual emission events that occurred during the sampling program. Full-time field observers documented visible releases of particulate matter (PM) near sturation and core monitoring sties. At multiple points in surrounding areas, traffic flows were monitored and road dust samples were analyzed for silt content. The sources of visible PM emissions that were observed most often included farming operations and traffic. A database of emission activies is currently under construction for use by emission modelers and air quality analysts.
