Vertical gradients of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured over a corn field, in its early growth period, during May 1995, in the coastal plains of Notrh Carolina. These measurements along with other micrometeorological measurements were made as part of probjec NOVA (Natural emissions of Oxidant precursors: Validation of techniques and Assessment) to estimate the flux of VOCs. Average emissions of VOC was estimated to be 4,776 +-2, 707 #mu# g/m~2/hr out of which emission from methanol averaged 3673 #mu# g/m~2/hr. The emission rate for corn was calculated from the emission flux using land use data and biomass density for the site.
