Personal exposures to volatile organic compounds (VOC) were monitored for 24 h periods in a pilot-media study. One human subject was chsoen from each of the 44 randomly selected dwellings in the GTreater Toronto Area (GTA). VOC in indoor and outdoor air, and the personal breathing zone were collected with passive samplers. Concurrently, reporesentative samples of food, beverages and potable water consumed by the same subjects were collted in suitable containers. The VOC were extracted, and then determined by means of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS). The study design, emthods and results for eight of the compouns are described briefly.
