The technical conditions of γ-linolenic acid (GLA) production and the efficiency of the GLA produc-tion by filamentous fungi fermentation in both the airlift bioreactor and the stirrer bioreactor were studied. The resuits showed that the airlift bioreactor system was better than the stirrer bioreactor system. There were 6% differ-ences between the two systems on the GLA content. The control parameters in the airlift bioreactor were obtained: pH 6.0, aerate-rate 1:1.7, temperature 28℃. Under this condition, the GLA content reached 15%~18%.
