Platinum-group element mineralization in the British Tertiary Volcanic Province

Abundant and diverse platinum-group element (PGE) mineralization occurs in association with chromitite laminae throughout the British Tertiary Volcanic Province. PGE mineralization ranges from poorly enriched lithologies containing a few grains of laurite through to very enriched lithologies hosting an abundant and diverse assemblage of PGE minerals. A variety of mineralization styles is present from sulphide-rich to sulphide poor indicating that a range of enrichment processes have been recorded. The degree of magmatic fractionation appears to be the most significant factor in the concentration of PGE.
