Nuclear Research Corporation (NRC) has developed an emergency radiation monitoring system that provides wide-range detection and realtime radiological mapping of surveyed data. Mathematical model has been developed to project dispersion of radioactive plume to allow planning during emergencies Using the latest techniques in Radiation Monitoring, Global Positioning, computer networking and Radiation Dispersion methodology, this Global Area Radiation Dispersion monitoring System (GARDS) is available to environmental protection and health physics personnel to monitor radiological emergencies in real-time. A wide variety of detectors such as NRC patented Time-to-Count GM tubes, scintillation detectors with automatic gain stabilization and solid state detectors are used to monitor alpha, beta, neutron and gamma fields The Time-To-Count GM tube technique eliminates the operational problems associated with conventional GM tubes, such as saturation effect, limited tube life, non-linearity and plateau stability. This technique dramatically expands GM tube radiation coverage range up to 100 kR/hr, and extends GM tube life-time.
