AN ABSTRACT ARGUMENTATION SYSTEM FOR DEFEASIBLE REASONING

In this article, we aim to construct an abstract argumentation system to perform defeasible reasoning in consideration of practical use. A useful argumentation system should enable rich argumentation-theoretic semantics, enhance expressive power and provide an effective resolution of argument conflicts. Referring to Gerald A.W. Vreeswijk's systems, an argumentation system is given to fulfill the theoretic descriptions in Phan Minh Dung's theory, offering a simple and intuitive explanation to the process of defeasible reasoning with the preferred semantics and the grounded semantics. Besides undercutting defeaters are also included to enhance the expressive power of the system, which can be used to express the stable semantics in the argumentation system.
