MODELING AN ENZYMATIC DIFFUSION-REACTION PROCESS IN ONE DIMENSIONAL SPACE

In this paper a nonlinear model of a spatially distributed biological system representing the interaction between diffusion and reaction in living cells is proposed and analyzed. The model is derived from a kinetic study of the enzyme Acetylcholinesterase immobilized within an artificial membrane. The formulated system represents a model of three different chemical species that interact with each other to produce Acetate and Choline. Numerical results employing the Method of Lines make possible to assess the concentration profile of each specie involved in the enzymatic reaction on space and time, what is not directly observable by biochemists.
