The purpose of this paper is to describe the procedure and technique used in optimizing and field calibrating a Mag Probe-type Magnetic Flowmeter on various size lines. The paper describes the operating principles of a Mag Probe Flow-meter and how it may be installed on virtually any size line containing a conductive liquid without the need or recourse for any auxiliary electronic instrumentation or calibration against a known flow.rnThe design of the Magnetic Probe is that of a device which is virtually non-obstructing and universal in design so that one Probe can service pipes from |1/4" to 12" in diameter without any change in the Probe configuration or associated electronic Transmitter. The Mag Probe operates with any conductive liquid that would be suitable with the conventional Flow Tube-type Magnetic Flowmeters. A second size variation of this Probe extends its operation in pipes up to 60" in diameter, thus presenting an extremely cost-effective means for magnetic flowmetering large pipes.
