Keeping the Focus During Requirements Analysis

The requirements analysis process can have difficulties and diversions which work against success using the standard flow processes. This paper examines seven key problem areas and shows how they can be treated in a disciplined manner to ensure more success during the requirements analysis process. The treatment herein is intended to serve as a reminder of things generally known to practicing systems engineers but often overlooked or neglected in the rush to complete projects. Attention to these items helps catch problems before the design or fabrication is finished, helping to reduce costs of rework. This set of tools can be easily used as review criteria for those needing to develop, manage, design to or verify requirements.
