A SYSTEMIC MODEL TO EVALUATE THE SMALL PEASANT FARM IN COLOMBIA FROM A SUSTAINABILITY PERSPECTIVE

This paper presents a new approach to the evaluation of a small peasant farms in poorrnrural areas in Colombia. It takes into account not only the market oriented approach of thern"green revolution" but also the evaluation of sustainability in terms of land protection,rnbiodiversity and alternative ways of having enough resources and products made in thernfarm for the family consumption. The model includes also family relationshiprnconsiderations and self-reliance. It was designed through a set of several workshops thatrnincluded systemic group exercises with peasants and technicians that give assistance tornsmall farmers in Colombia. Finally the model was tested in twelve small farms. Thernmodel is implemented through indicators that work up from a low level and by a numberrnof aggregations and weighs give finally a global performance index forrnthe farm.
