Emergent Shapes in Graphical Design

摘要

This paper deals with graphical design and extracting emergent shapes, i.e., shapes that are not conciously constructed by designers. Graphical design is discussed in the framework of operational constraints. Defining the system of constraints makes possible to describe the notion of emergence in a formal way. The formal model of the diagrammatic reasoning system serves as a base for our considerations. The proposed approach to graphical design is illustrated by several examples related to decorative art.
