The research on and applications of fluid inclusions have progressed tremendously in recent 20 years. Although ore deposit research is still the main field of application of fluid inclusions, fluid inclusions have been increasingly applied to other of earth science, especially in petroleum geology.rnThis trend is also reflected by application of fluid inclusions in Shengli oil province, the second large oil field in China. On 24 papers detected and pieces of unpublished data saved by Shengli oil field, the author provides an overview of developments in fluid-inclusion research, applications and analytical methods.rn1. The fluid inclusions of basalt erupted in Eocene were firstly studied in 1980's to find gas origin of some CO_2 accumulation distributing along the basalt area. The dominant gaseous composition CO_2, higher CO_2 percentage of group inclusions in gas field then that in non-gas field, similarity of isotopic compositions of CO2 among basalt in gas field, CO2 accumulation and mantle rock, relativity of n(~3He)(~3He)-n(~(40)Ar)(Ar) between basalt and CO2 accumulation reveals that natural CO2 may be derived from mantle and migrate along faults or volcanic chunnels after magmatism (Xu etc., 1989; Liu,2001; He etc., 1996,1998; Guo etc.,2004).rn2. The first paper dealing with inclusions of sedimentary rock was published in 1991. The application of fluid inclusions of sedimentary rock is focused on hydrocarbon migration and charge, including origin of petroleum and gas, accumulation history, migration epoch, charge model. In addition, fluid inclusions have been applied to study basin's evolution and judge hydrocarbon potential.
