摘要

Tipam and Barail oils and the sediments of Barail Coal Shale and Kopili shales of the Lakwa-Lakhmani field of Upper Assam Basin were analysed to investigate their geochemical characteristics and oil-source correlation. Results indicate that the oils and the sediments have similar source organics. Lower part of Barail and upper part of Kopili shales have very good potential to generate hydrocarbons in the studied area but are in very early stage of catagenesis.lt seems that the oils might have been generated by more mature lower part of Barail Coal Shale/ upper part of Kopili Shale sequences present in deeper part of basin and subsequently migrated to the shelf area.
