Recent Progress in Japan's DD Project on Residential PEFC Cogeneration (entering into the latter half)

To promote commercialization of both residential and automotive PEFCs in Japan, a five-year termed program, the Millennium PEFC Program, was launched in FY2000. The prime purpose of the program is to provide technical data required for establishing safety, codes and standards to encourage the smooth deploy of PEFC technology based vehicles and residential cogeneration systems into the marketplace, one of the most promising means to respond to global warming and environmental issues. During the 3rd fiscal year of the residential project, 20 residential PEFC co-generators from 8 Japanese and 1 U.S. manufacturers were tested, and a dramatic improvement in performance over their predecessors was represented as electrical efficiency rising up to 32%HHV with 89%HHV of overall energy efficiency.
