摘要

Biofilm formation is the primary cause of clinical failure of biomaterials including dental implants. After implantation, the adsorption of proteins from body fluids is followed by the adhesion of bacteria to the surface of a biomaterial. The occurrence of functional chemical groups is a parameter which may influence bacterial adhesion and viability. Here, positively and negatively charged terminal groups were created on self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of alkyl silanes.
