A commercial Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy instrument is being used to identify plated layer thickness on steel core coins plated alternating layers of Nickel, Copper, and Nickel. Tracer 2100~(TM) can determine layer thickness by identifying the layer boundaries using successive shots and proprietary analytical methods, with a precision of less than 0.5 microns in less than 10 minutes total analysis and preparation time.
