The research and development of the trimaran has received much more attention and is developing to the engineering application stage. If s a simple and practical resort to analyze and predict the resistance performance by the linear wave-making resistance theory, which can play an important role in the hull form optimization to reduce resistance and the hull form plan line design for the trimaran. Up to now, since the numerical calculation method based on the linear wave-making resistance theory can't get satisfied results on dealing with transom, bulbous bow and the piece hull of the trimaran, it's necessary to have an improvement on the linear wavemaking resistance theory numerical calculation method for its more extensive application. Present paper puts forward a new numerical calculation method of the linear wave-making resistance theory based on Tchebyshev polynomials fitting the transverse sectional area curve. The new numerical calculation method can reduce the order of the Tchebyshev polynomials to fit the transverse sectional area curve, and reflect the effect of the trimaran outrigger, transom and bulbous bow, etc., to the wave-making resistance; furthermore, it is convenient to the hull form optimization. The resistance of a trimaran is calculated by present method, the calculation results of which were compared and analyzed. It is concluded that present method can obtain satisfactory results in the resistance prediction for the trimaran practical engineering application.
