The latest version of the Model for Analysis of the Vibration and Acoustic Radiation of Transducers (MAVART), a finite element analysis program, is undergoing test and evaluation at the Defence Research Establishment Atlantic. MAVART3D Version 4.3 can model fully 3D piezoelectric sonar transducers, as well as designs that have 2D, N-fold or axial symmetries. A 3D model of the axially driven resonant pipe projector was built with MSC/PATRAN and analyzed with MAVART3D. The MAVART3D-generated estimates for piezoelectric motor admittance and resonant frequencies were compared with those measured at DREA's acoustic calibration facility from the prototype ADRPP.
