Following conclusions can be drawn from the present investigation. 1. Wear behavior of the ADI depends on the initial microstructure of the ADI. 2. Wear rate of ADI increases with the increase in austempering temperature. 3. Austempered microstructure at higher temperature consists of blocky austenite, which has a tendency to form strain induced martensite. Formation of martensite increases the strength of the matrix, and makes it more difficult to deform. 4. Wear in ADI occurs primarily by a process of adhesion and delamination. 5. Wear rate depends on yield strength, volume fraction of austenite, and its carbon content and obeys the relationship: W∞(X_γC_γ/σ_(ys))~(1/3).
