Analysis of the Reasons and Causes of Reducing Average Length of Stay in Healthcare Facilities in Selected OECD Countries

Health is seen as a subsystem of health care, but also as an autonomous economic system. This system, inter alia, includes hospital facilities, which currently form an expensive part of health care system and derive 47% of total health care costs (44.4% in 2006) [17]. Due to this development and the development of health care as a whole, it is necessary to look for causes of this current status. The causes can be searched for in the effective functioning of hospitals. The purpose of the paper is to look for factors that affect the effectiveness of hospitals. It also shows some measures of evaluating the effectiveness of hospitals and also compares this effectiveness with selected OECD countries.
