Two commercially available triblock co-polymers gels, consisting of polystyrene (PS) and polyisoprene (PI), were seen to exhibit quasi-static properties suitable within the range of ballistic gelatin, although some variance in the method of measurement was found. A successful methodology was developed for mechanically characterizing materials below a modulus of 1 MPa, applicable to a number of other soft material systems. Both the macro and micro-scale measurements on 1161 and 1165 revealed rate dependent behavior and were qualitatively in agreement with one another. However, it was difficult to interpret dynamic mechanical properties of the two gels to compare to loading rate effects. More extensive work on other material systems is planned for the future.
